Souvenir vs Normal Skins
Souvenir skins and normal skins can share the same weapon and finish yet behave very differently in your inventory. Souvenirs come from CS2 Major tournaments and carry commemorative tournament stickers that cannot be removed, while normal skins come from cases and drops. Knowing the difference helps you read a listing correctly before you buy.
What makes a skin a Souvenir
A Souvenir skin is a special edition tied to a Counter-Strike Major championship. It displays a gold or holographic set of stickers representing the tournament, a team, and sometimes an individual player, and its name appears in a distinct colour in your inventory. These stickers are applied permanently and cannot be scraped off or swapped.
One important limitation: Souvenir items can never be StatTrak. The two qualities are mutually exclusive, so you will never see a Souvenir StatTrak finish.
How Souvenirs are obtained
Souvenirs originate from Souvenir Packages dropped to viewers who watch Major matches live through the in-game GOTV broadcast with a linked Steam account. Each package contains one weapon skin pulled from the map's active Souvenir collection, with tournament and player stickers applied at random positions.
Because the supply is fixed to historical tournaments, no new Souvenirs are created for an event once it ends. That scarcity is the main reason some examples trade far above their normal counterparts.
How normal skins differ
Normal skins are the standard versions you pull from weapon cases, earn as end-of-match drops, or buy on the open market. They can be StatTrak if that quality exists for the finish, and any stickers are optional and applied by the owner rather than baked in.
Normal skins generally have deeper supply and a larger pool of buyers, which tends to make them easier to resell quickly.
Why values diverge
Souvenir value is driven heavily by the stickers themselves. A package stamped with a famous player's autograph from a memorable match can command a large premium, while a Souvenir with less sought-after stickers may actually sell for less than the normal version of the same skin. Low float and clean sticker placement add further demand.
Normal skins are priced more predictably on supply, wear, and pattern. For a broader view of how scarcity feeds into price, see our note on discontinued and rare skins.
Which is right for you
If you want a conversation piece tied to esports history and you understand that resale can be slow, a Souvenir can be appealing. If you prioritise liquidity and a clean, unstickered look, a normal skin is usually the simpler choice. Neither is inherently a better store of value; demand depends on the specific item. Our investing overview covers how to think about holding either one.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Souvenir skin be StatTrak?
No. Souvenir and StatTrak are separate qualities and cannot appear on the same item.
Why are some Souvenirs so expensive?
Price is often driven by the stickers they carry, such as a notable player's autograph from a famous match, combined with low float and tidy placement.
Can I remove the stickers from a Souvenir?
No. Souvenir stickers are permanent and cannot be scraped off or swapped, which is part of what defines the item.
Do Souvenirs still drop in CS2?
Yes. Souvenir Packages continue to drop to viewers watching Major matches live through GOTV with a linked Steam account.
Are Souvenirs a guaranteed better investment?
No. Some Souvenirs trade below the normal version of the same skin. Value depends on the specific stickers and condition, and prices can move in either direction.
