Slaughter Pattern Guide

Slaughter is a marbled pink and red knife finish, and certain pattern placements, such as a clean heart shape, are prized by collectors. This guide covers the patterns to look for and how to check them. For the system behind it, read our paint seeds guide.

What Slaughter Is

Slaughter applies a glossy marbled finish in shades of pink and red. As with other randomized finishes, the paint seed sets how the marbling falls, so each copy looks different.

It is a knife-only finish, and its soft colours make it a popular alternative to the bolder Marble Fade and Doppler looks.

Sought-After Patterns

The most prized Slaughter copies show a recognisable shape on the playside. A clean heart pattern is the best known, with diamond-like and tightly marbleized placements also valued.

These copies are nicknamed after the shapes they form, and a well-defined shape on the visible face carries a premium over a plain swirl.

Why Placement Matters

As with all pattern finishes, the value comes from what sits on the playside. A heart or clean shape on the face you see in game is worth more than the same shape hidden on the backside.

Copies without a clear shape are still attractive but trade closer to the base price of the finish.

How to Check the Pattern

Steam does not label Slaughter shapes, so use the inspect link to view the playside and a pattern tool to match the seed to known shapes. Confirm the pattern before paying a premium for a heart or similar.

Our inspect link guide explains how.

Buying a Slaughter

Decide whether a specific shape matters to you. If you simply like the pink marbling, a plain copy is cheaper and still looks good; if you want a heart pattern, check the placement carefully.

For a related marbled finish, see our Marble Fade guide.

Slaughter Versus Other Pink Finishes

Slaughter is often compared with pink-leaning Doppler phases and with Marble Fade, since all three can read as pink and red in game. Slaughter's marbled style is softer and usually cheaper than a comparable Doppler or Fire & Ice.

If you like the colour but not the price of a top Doppler, a Slaughter can be a sensible alternative. Our Doppler phases guide covers the pink phases for comparison.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Slaughter heart pattern?

It is a Slaughter copy where the marbling forms a clean heart shape on the playside. The heart is the best-known sought-after pattern and carries a premium over a plain swirl.

Why do some Slaughter knives cost more?

The paint seed decides how the marbling falls. Copies with a recognisable shape, such as a heart, on the visible face are rarer and more desirable than plain copies.

Does the pattern need to be on the playside?

Yes, that is what matters most. A shape on the face you see in game is worth more than the same shape hidden on the backside.

How do I check a Slaughter pattern?

View the playside through the inspect link and use a pattern tool to match the seed to known shapes. Confirm before paying a premium.

Is a plain Slaughter still a good buy?

Yes. If you like the pink and red marbling rather than a specific shape, a plain copy is cheaper and still looks good in game.
